Dr Shimon Eckhouse, chairperson, Syneron Candela 

Dr. Shimon Eckhouse is an active entrepreneur and a very successful investor in the field of medical devices and medical technology, with close to 20 companies founded in this area. 

Dr. Eckhouse is currently the chairperson of  Syneron Candela (Nasdaq ELOS) which he co-founded in 2001 and took public on Nasdaq in 2004 and through a secondary offering in Nasdaq in 2005. Syneron reached a valuation of more than $1B, returning to its investors more than 80 times their investment. 

In 2013, Dr. Eckhouse founded and currently chairs Alon MedTech Ventures Ltd., which is dedicated to the incubation of medical technology start-up companies. Dr. Eckhouse is also the chairperson of several private companies, including OrSense Ltd., Calore Medical Ltd., Tulip Medical Ltd., Rapid Medical Ltd., Opticul Ltd, RealView Imaging Ltd., Butterfly Medical Ltd., Cliptip Ltd., Anchora Medical Ltd., BrainMARC Ltd. and C3D Ltd. He was a co-founder of ColorChip Inc.

Dr. Eckhouse was a co-founder and first investor of Ventor Medical Technologies Ltd. and served as its Chairman until it was acquired by Medtronic in February 2009 for $325M.

Dr. Eckhouse was the founder, chairman and CEO of ESC Medical Systems (now Lumenis) from its inception in 1992 until 1999. He took the company public on Nasdaq in January of 1996 and raised more than $250M in 3 public offerings, the company reached a valuation of more than $1B returning to its investors about X120 on their original investment in the company.

 He has more than 200 worldwide patents and published more than 50 papers in leading reference journals and conferences. He is also a member of the board of directors of the Technion Israeli Institute of Technology.
